The Merville United AGM was held on Wednesday last at Merville. A reasonable attendance reviewed another successful season for the Club, and future plans for the development of the Club were also extensively discussed. The Committee was again re-elected for another year, with additional appointments in several key areas. A meeting to discuss Managerial appointments will be held in July and as the number of youth teams to be entered next season is directly dependant on the number of Volunteer Coaches, currently we envisage a reduction of the Squads Competing in the Youth Leagues from 9 to 5 teams. Therefore it is vital that as many Parents and Supporters  get involved in the Administration and activities of the Club. Contact Benny on 086-3103880 for further information. Next Season will see a Membership fee of 100 euro for players registering to play in the Local Leagues, and this will cover referees match fees for the season for the first time.  This fee, which also includes entry payments to the Sligo Leitrim League and Player Insurance, will be payable at the registration night in early August, and will more efficiently streamline the administration involved across the season.

Details of our forthcoming Summer Soccer Camp are to be circulated shortly to all members, and published on the Club Website. This year sees 2 week long camps commencing on the July 5th to 9th and July 26th to 30th July, hosted again in Conjunction with the Coaches of Sligo Community Training Workshop. This exciting Camp sees players enjoy developing the skill of the game in a Fun and Safe Environment. Contact Benny on 086-3103880 for further information.

The Merville United World Cup Shootout has been launched, to raise much needed funds for next season. Priced at 5 euro, ticket holders are asked to predict the rank the eight World Cup Groups will finish up after the first phase, for a cash prize of 500 euro. Details of every entry will be posted on the Club Website, so entrants can check their knowledge against everybody else who gets involved!

6th May

As the number of teams to be entered next season is directly dependant on the number of Volunteer Coaches, currently we envisage a reduction of the Squads Competing in the Youth Leagues from 9 to 5 teams. Therefore it it is vital that as many Parents and Supporters attend, AND get involved.

The Sligo Leitrim Youth Schoolboys Girls league in conjunction with the F.A.I. will be holding a referees beginners course during the summer. The course will be held over two evenings date, time, and venue have not yet been decided.

2nd May

The 2010 Youth & Schoolboys Campaign ended on a windswept coastal field in the cruelest of blows with a heartbreaking 1-0 loss by our U14s in the Connacht Cup Final. In what was virtually the last kick of the game, Galway Side Salthill Devon came away with the spoils, but as is always the case that is never the complete telling of the story. In what began seven months earlier, the Coaching Team and Players have proved that hard work, a willingness to learn, and great commitment can bring success. That said, sport can prove to be a great teacher of character, and no doubt all involved will use the pain of defeat this time into the joy of success in the future.

28th April

In what started as a night of great optimism, ended in despair for the Merville Teams playing in local League Playoff Stages. Our U16s travelled to Ballygawley Celtic for the Semi-final of the o neill sports under 16 league, where 2 early goals for the home side rocketed them into pole position after 15 Minutes. Merville Settled and had several opportunities towards half time, and dominated early parts of the second half, which eventually resulted in only a single score, which in the end saw the season come to a rather disappointing end for the lads. Best of Luck to Ballygawley in the Final next Tuesday Night.

In the U14 Sligo Champion League Final, our trailblazing Connacht Cup Finalists found the weather and Old Foes Real Tubber both difficult on the Night. In what was a classic topsy turvey match, the battle was finally lost with what has been described to this correspondent as a wonder Strike worth the winning of any title. Congratulations to Real Tubber on their success, and best of luck to our lads in the forthcoming Connacht Cup Final v Salthill Devon on Sunday 2nd May in Strandhill. Kick Off is 12 Noon.

Congratulations to our U14 Squad who overcame the challenge of Corrib Celtic to progress in the SFAI Goodsen Cup recently. In what has been described as one of the best matches ever played locally, both sides served up a treat which extra time could not break the deadlock in a 6 goal thriller. A record number of penalties later saw the home side progress into a home tie against Castlebar Celtic in the next round.  Well done to all involved.

14th December

Merville United Junior Side beat Roscommon premier league side 3-2 in the 3rd round of the Connaught Cup Sunday 13th and their only goals were from 2 penalties. Congratulations to all concerned.

match report below Courtesy of Ocean FM

Merville United travelled to Cloonfad and the home side started the game with lightning pace and they dominated the game for a large long periods of the first half and were rewarded with a penalty five minutes from the interval when Merville’s John Mc Loughlin took down the C loonfad striker David Keaveney in the penalty box and he dusted himself down to crack home the opening goal from the spot sending the Merville’s Keeper the wrong way in the process.

Merville came out in the second half all guns blazing and soon equalised through a sweet goal from Gary Finan following a neat cross from David Blain.

Merville then took the lead when Stephen Hallihan was put through by Caolan O Grady and he crossed the ball into the top left corner of the Cloonfad Goal.

Merville soon took advantage of their dominance and went 3-1 up from a neat goal from man of the match and leading scorer Finan.

Cloonfad were not willing to lay down their guns and were awarded another penalty when Keaveney was clean clear on goal and taken down by the Merville net minder Divers, again Keaveney proved up to the challenge.

The last five minutes were very tense for Merville as the home side fought hard for the equaliser that did not come.

 25 June

A Team Managers Meeting will be held at Merville Community Centre on
Wednesday, July 8th, at 8pm. This important meeting will determine the
number of Team entries in the Sligo Leitrim Youth and Schoolboys/Girls
League for next season. The 2008/09 campaign saw the highest entries of the
Clubs History, with 9 entries at U12, U14, U16 and U18 Boys, but regretfully
no Girls Representation from the Club. Early indications are that the high
water mark in Boys/Youths football will not be met next term, due to a lack
of Volunteer Coaches and Supervision. Therefore, a special appeal to those
who may have an interest in getting involved to attend this meeting. No
previous Training or experience is necessary, as full support will be
provided by the club. Preseason training will commence in early august for
all our league teams, and notice of Trials and registration dates will be
posted in local media, and on the Club Website.

Well done to all Merville Players and Coaches involved in the recent
national U13 Kennedy Cup campaign, hosted at the University of Limerick. A
creditable performance by all concerned, at the end of a long year of
dedication and effort.

Our Soccer 4 Kids Academy has now closed for the Summer break, and will
resume in September. Any outstanding Wet Tops on order are available by
calling Benny on 086-3103880, and we can arrange delivery. Our special
thanks to Sligo Rovers, for the ongoing provision of the excellent
All-weather facilities at the Showgrounds. The club extend our best wishes
to the Rovers, as they embark on the Europa League odyssey this week..

The Merville United AGM was held on Wednesday June 3rd at Merville. The small attendance were given a detailed breakdown on the workings of a Club with over 250 members.  The Financial report saw a depletion of the club reserves over the year, and the impact of this new reality will be seen in the entries for the new season, and the curtailment of some activities.
