National Green Flag Award

Last November, St. Michael's School became the first urban school in Ireland to be selected as a Green School and receive the coveted Green Flag Award. The Green Schools award scheme has been running in twelve other European countries where over 2000 schools are registered. The project is based on increasing awareness of the environment through educational programs and this is the first time any Irish school has achieved the award.

An Taisce in partnership with Coca Cola started the scheme in 1998 and signed up 138 schools nationwide. Three schools were selected for the first awards and we received our flag from Education Minister Micheál Martin at a ceremony in Dublin
