Escallonia

The escallonia is very common in the West of Ireland. It is not damaged by wind. The leaf is shiny and dark. The escallonia is often used as a hedging plant. It usually flowers from June to early autumn.

 

Hydrangea

The hydrangea has very large flower heads. These are called mopheads. They are large ball-like blooms. They are usually pink in colour but in certain soil types they are blue.

 

Potentilla

The potentilla is a small shrub. The leaves are narrow and grow in groups of five. It flowers from May to September. The flowers can be red, yellow, white or tangerine.
