9th Apparition. February 25th, 1858. Bernadette was told to go and drink at the spring and wash in it water, but as she saw no spring, she turned towards the Gave. Our Lady called her back and with Queenly dignity, made her a sign to go to the edge of the Grotto. "Then", said Bernadette, "I scooped out a hole in the ground and the water immediately rose in and I drank some". It is this wonderful spring which since then, has worked so many evident miracles. |

Our Lady taught Bernadette to make the sign of the cross.
2nd Apparition. February 14th, 1858. "There she is!" said Bernadette joyfully, as she walked towards the rock sprinkling holy waterin the direction of the mysterious Lady who smiled at Bernadette's gesture.
3rd Apparition. February 18th, 1858. Bernadette in ecstasy "She is coming - here she is!" She offered the Our Lady, ink and paper to write down her wishes:"What I have to tell you does not need to be written. Be kind enoughto come here everyday for a fortnight. I do not promise that you will be happy in this life but in the next.
4th Apparition. February 19th, 1858. The ecstasy lasted half an hour.
5th Apparition. February 20th, 1858. Bernadette was accompanied by her mother. A crowd had preceded them to the Grotto. During the ecstasy Our Lady taught Bernadette a word by word a prayer exclusively for herself.
6th Apparition. February 21th, 1858. It took place in the presence of a very large crowd of people very much moved. Noticing that the Lady looked sad, Bernadette her the cause "Pray for sinners", asked the Lady.
7th Apparition. February 23rd, 1858. Our Lady told Bernadette three secrets which she never revealed.
Bernadette, kneeling down on the stone, holding her rosary, radient at first, suddenly becamesad. Still on her knees she made her way up the slope to the Grotto, repeatly kissing the ground, saying as she turned to the crowd saying the words uttered by Our Lady: "Penance, Penance, Penance!"

10th Apparition. February 26th, 1858. Our Lady said: "You will kiss the ground for sinners".
Bernadette had a long ecstasy at the end of which the Our Lady seemed to be in deep mediation. She told Bernadette to go and tell the priests that a chapel had to be built there.
12th Apparition. February 28th, 1858. Our Lady gave Bernadette personal and intimate messages.
13th Apparition. March 1st, 1858. There was enthusiastic emotion among the crowd who, imitating Bernadette held up their rosaries to Our Lady.
14th Apparition. March 2nd, 1858. Our Lady said: "I want people to come here in procession.
15th Apparition. March 4th, 1858. There was quite a crowd of people. Bernadette was in ecstasy for about an hour, at times seeming joyful at others sad.
16th Apparation. March
25th, 1858. A radiant light, brighter than ever, lit up the Grotto. Our Lady appeared smiling, looking at the crowd as an affectionate mother looks at her children. Bernadette, through a spirit of obedience, asked her three times to tell her name. Raising her eyes to heaven, then bending down to Bernadette, Our Lady answered: "Que Soy Era Immaculada Counceptio", "I am the Immaculate Conception".
17th Apparition. April 7th, 1858. Then took place the miracle of the candle, the flame of which burnt between Bernadette's fingers without causing her any pain.
18th Apparition. July 16th, 1858. The last Apparition took place on the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The Blessed Virgin greeted Bernadette with a smile. It was the last she was to give to the humble child who became Sister Marie Bernard in the Congregation of the Sisters of Nevers, where she died on the Wednesday of Easter week, April 16th 1879. |
