On the 3rd of July 1866 Bernadette left her beloved Grotto for the last time. She traveled to Nevers where she joined the Sisters of Charity Convent. There Bernadette stayed until her death on the 16th of April 1879, she was 35 years old. Her body was placed in the vault of a little chapel in the garden of St. Joseph, until 1909 when 30 years after her death her body was miraculously preserved. Bernadette was finally placed in a beautiful ornate glass reliquary where she can be contemplated to this day on entering the chapel of the Nuns of Nevers.
