During the Galway International rally earlier this year a young rally driver from Donegal, Paul Gallagher was seriously injured following a crash on day two of the rally. Paul has been wheelchair bound since the accident and initially was paralysed from the neck down. He has regained some movement in his arms since the accident with the help of specialized treatment both at home and abroad. Midland Motor club along with many other clubs around the country have organized fund raising events to assist Paul’s recovery. In August this year Midland Motor Club ran its annual Autocross and it was decided that all money raised would be given to the Paul Gallagher recovery fund. The Autocross was a great success and was hugely supported by all the local community in Scramogue where the event was held. Last week in the Saddlers Inn, Boyle €6,000 was handed over to Paul who was accompanied by members of Donegal Motor club. Paul spoke to those in attendance and thanked all who were associated with the fundraising efforts. He said the funds will assist him greatly towards his recovery. Chairman of Midland Motor Club Vincent Collins said the club were delighted to be able to help Paul in this small way. |
