Ireland has a world reputation for its music, reflected in the international prominance of groups like The Chieftains, U2 and Boyzone. Milford is playing its part in promoting a love of music among the children. We place a huge emphaisis on both instrumental and choral music in our school. Every child from the age of 7, is taught the tin whistle as part of our music plan. Having attained a desirable level of competency in this instrument many progress onto other instruments as an extra curricular activity.

From the age of 10 children are invited  to join the School Band where they have a practical outlet for their musical knowledge and expertise. The band draws together a whole range of stringed, brass, percussion and wind instruments. the children perform at many functions e.g. University Concerts, Church celebrations, local competitions and charity events.

The pupils in the senior classes participate in the National Children's Choir, which is a bi-annual event. They have also travelled to the Point Depot in Dublin to participate in The Hallelujah Chorus. Both of these events involve thousands of children from all over Ireland and the boys and girls of Milford have really enjoyed the experience.

Milford N.S. affords children the opportunity to express their musical talent. Many of the teachers who guide them are musically adept. Whether the children perform professionally or socially in the future, we hope that the sheer enjoyment that music can bring will be their greatest achievement.
