Gobies live in tropical seashore regions and coral reefs. They eat plankton, small fish and parasites from the bodies of other fish. They are less than 2.5 centimetres long or as big as 50 centimetres. There are more species of goby than any other marine fish. There are about 1500 species. Gobies have bodies like torpedos with wide mouths and wide flat heads. They have big eyes which provide sharp vision. They have a disc on their stomach which they use to stick to rocks. Gobies are known as the cleaner fish because they keep other fish clean. Some gobies even swim inside other fishes mouths to clean them. Gobies are unusual hunters as they lay still and wait for their food to come to them. |
