OCTOPUS

The Octopus  belongs to the same group as shellfish even though they don't have a shell! Together with the squid and cuttlefish the octopus belongs to a class called Cephalopoda which means "feet around the head" which refers to the location of the octopuses eight arms.

Octopus have a special sac that contains a dark ink.  When the animal is threatened, the ink is squirted into the water to confuse predators and allows the octopus to escape.

Octopuses live in seashore regions in coral reefs, and in opean oceans down to depths of about 492 feet.  They eat crabs, abaloness, mussels, clams, dogfish and even small sharks.  The Octopus is eaten by many sea creatures, including savage congereels,  moray eels, sea lions, seals, dolphins and nurse sharks.
