Castlebar, being centrally located in Mayo is the ideal base for exploring a county rich in heritage, scenery and tradition.

Local amenities include Mayo Roller Bowl and Northwest Karting, Golf, Horse Riding, Swimming and Sailing.

Castlebar is a great base for cycling enthusiasts with many places of interest close by. There's Ballintubber Abbey, Aughgower, Croagh Patrick and the Famine Monument, Foxford Wollen Mills, Knock, Windy Gap and Cong.

Castlebar is the administrative capital of Mayo, with many good shops where you can purchase clothes, antiques, gifts, music and sports equipment.

There are many organised walks throughout Castlebar and the surrounding area including the historical heritage trail.

Mill Hill House is also conveniently located close to Westport, one of only two planned towns in Ireland. It is home to many fine Restaurants and coffee houses(Chinese, Italian, Thai, Seafood, Global, European and traditional).

As to be expected, Westport has its fair share of Pubs where you can hear live music nightly, Matt Molloy's of "The Chieftans" fame being one of the most renowned.

Mayo is renowned for its lake and sea fishing, boats are easy to hire on a daily or weekly basis.

Feel like going further afield? Why not visit Leenane and the Ashleigh Waterfall, Clare Island, home of the famous sea pirate Grainuale, or Achill Island with its Dolphins and Basking Sharks.
Take in a bit of heritage by visiting the Museum of Country Life, Turlough, The Michael Davitt Museum or Westport House and the Heritage Centre in Westport Harbour.
