England and Scotland

Location:  

Britain, comprising England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, is situated the in the     northwest corner of Europe.

 

Religion:  

The official religion is Anglicanism but Evangelicals and Roman Catholics are also numerous.  Today, British society is becoming increasingly secular.

 

 

 

 

Language:  

English is the official language but Welsh and Gaelic are also spoken.  Because of immigration into Britain, a wide variety of other languages can now be heard on the streets of the big cities of Britain.

 

Economy:  

Britain is a high-income economy with a long history of manufacturing and mining.  Social benefits are provided to those unable to work.  Healthcare and education are subsidized by the government.

 

 

The Columban Sisters in Britain:  

The work of the Sisters in Britain is varied:

1.   Mission awareness and justice education; 

2.   Ministry to  people through visitation of the sick and the 
      lonely  in their homes, in hospitals or in prisons.

3.   Work with migrants, lay missionaries and people of other faiths.
