Location:
Chile is a long, narrow country situated on
the Pacific Coast of South America.
Religion:
Most people in Chile are baptized Catholics
but in recent years there has been a sharp increase in
the number of Evagelical Protestants.
Language:
The predominant language is Spanish with some
people also speaking Mapuche and Aymara, the
original languages of Chile.
Economy:
Chile produces a large amount of copper and also exports large
quantities of
fruit. In recent times the country has become well known for its
wine exports. However,
a large percentage of the population still struggle to
live from day to day.
The Columban Sisters in Chile:
The
Sisters in Chile work in parishes teaching catechism in
family-centred programmes and in the formation of Basic
Christian Communities. They also provide programmes that
help those addicted to drugs and alcohol.
