Conor shines as St Senan's win
St Senan's 3-10 Monagea 1-9 THE highly talented Conor Mullane paved the way for an important victory for St Senan's in this intriguing game in Newcastle West on Friday evening. Conor Mullane's high fielding was a joy to behold and he was the catalyst that laid on many scores for his team mates. St Senan's got off to a bright start with points by John O'Donnell and Niall Guiney. A good movement involving Damien Fitzgibbon, Conor Mullane, and John O'Donnell created the chance for a magical goal from Anthony Lynch. Monagea's opening score came in the 12th minute when D.J. Corbett slotted over a point after good work by John Hough. Midway through the half St Senan's received another boost with another goal from John O'Donnell. John Hough and Niall Guiney exchanged points before Niall Guiney shot St Senan's fourth point. A long distance free by Maurice Flavin combined with another Maurice Flavin pointed free after a foul on John Hough encouraged Monagea. The half time score read St Senan's two goals and four points, Monagea four points. Monagea upped the tempo of their game and rallied back into contention with good points from play by D.J. Corbett and William Murphy, David Moroney and Maurice Flavin exchanged points before St Senan's improved again with three magical points from Niall Guiney, John O'Donnell and David Moroney. The high fielding Conor Mullane set up Niall Guiney for St Senan's ninth point. It seemed the game was over as a contest with St Senan's having an eight point lead with seven minutes remaining. The never say die spirit of Monagea came to the fore. A foul on Pat Enright resulted in a Maurice Flavin pointed free. William Keane, Maurice Flavin and D.J Corbett combined well before Maurice Flavin's long distance probing shot was deflected to the net. Another long distance free by Maurice Flavin left a solitary goal separating the teams. Monagea were back in contention. Conor Mullane's high fielding and probing run set up Anthony Lynch for the all important goal. A point on the run by Niall Guiney decided victory for St Senan's. Overall an exciting finish to an entertaining contest.
