Junior C Football Championship final

Moorefield ..................... 3-13

Monasterevin ................... 0-5

THE strength in depth at present at the Moorefield Club was much in evidence at Round Towers GAA grounds on Saturday when the Moors totally annihilated a Monasterevin side that to their credit fought all the way - even when the writing was on the wall long before referee Anthony Lambe blew the long whistle.

It did, however, take the winners quiet a while to find their range and although they led at the interval by 0-6 to 0-2 they had also managed to hit eight wides to the opposition’s none - an indication of the amount of possession they had enjoyed.

The second half was not long on before the boys in green transferred their dominance on the pitch to the score sheet and with a fair sprinkling of minor talent at their disposal they went on to totally dominate the proceedings.

Monasterevin had begun the second half with fine intentions and two points from the impressive Fergal Ryan left just two between the sides.

Moorefield then just seemed to ease their way forward and began taking their scores with top class displays from Mark Sexton, Paul Murnaghan, Tim Corley and the impressive second half substitute TJ Hogan.

At centre back, county minor star James Lonergan was in control; Stephen Kelly manned the square while up front Brian Collins also caught the eye.

One of the biggest cheers of the afternoon came when Darran ‘Butts’ Butler finally got the score everyone seemed to be waiting for as Moorefield ran out comfortable and deserving winners.
