CLUB NOTES

 On the club front, there was quite a lot of activity.  On Saturday Moorefield were host to the 'South Boards' Under 8 Football Blitz with a total of 16 teams taking part.  It was a wonderful spectacle to see so many young boys and girls taking part in our national game and it was also pleasing to see so many parents turing up to lend their support to these young players. The Under 16 'A' Semi Final between Moorefield and Clane failed to take place due to the adverse weather conditions on Friday evening last.  The new date at the time of writing is not yet known.However, the Semi Final of the Minor 'A' Championship went ahead on Saturday evening last with Moorefield winning convincingly on the score 3-10 to 0-4 for Kilcullen.In the Aldridge Cup Semi Final the Seniors also ran out convincing winners over Naas on the score 3-14 to 0-6.
Next weekend our Under 12 Footballers will take part in the 'Des Foley Memorial Competition' in Dublin where they will be guests of the famed St Vincents Club.

CLUB NOTES

There were two Junior League Semi-Finals down for discussion on Tuesday evening last.  The Junior League Division 1 game was not played - Moorefield opponents Round Towers failed to turn up. However the second Junior game went ahead and this turned out to be a fine game of football.  Moorefield emerging winners 1-11 to 1-6.   A feature of the game was the excellent free taking of Darren Butler and the excellent goal keeping of Darren McDonnell.  Three of his saves being out of the top drawer. 

There are three big games down for decision this comming weekend.  First on Friday evening the 25th in Raheens, the semifinal of the Under 16 'A' Championship Moorefield versus Clane, and then on Saturday afternoon the 26th the Minor 'A' Football Championship semifinal Moorefield versus Kilcullen at 4.45pm.  This is followed by the Aldridge Cup semifinal at 6pm Moorefield versus Naas.  All support is welcome for these three games.

Meanwhile Underage football training and coaching continues every Saturday at 11am.  New members welcome, meet at Scoil Mhuire, Ballymanny at 10.45am.

UNDER 16 CHAMPIONSHIP
(11TH AUGUST 2000)

CELBRIDGE 1-3 MOOREFIELD 4-21


Moorefield marched into the semi- finals of the Championship with a comprehensive victory over Celbridge, with a solid display by all concerned.Opening scores from Johnny Maguire, Daryl Flynn and Barry O Shea set the ball rolling for Moorefield.  Celbridge got on the score board after fourteen minutes with a well taken point, but Moorefield replied with a well taken goal from Eddie Crudden a minute later.  With points from Mark Doyle, Simon Byrne and Daryl Flynn, Moorefield were in control but to Celbridge credit they scored a great goal on the stroke of half time to leave seven points between both teams.Two minutes into the second half full forward Eddie Crudden struck again for Moorefield with a marvellous goal and with Simon Byrne, Ross Glavin and Michael Tracey scoring well taken points Moorefield again took control.Barry O Shea and James Lonnegan also scored cracking goals but to Celbridges credit they never gave up and but for a wonderful penalty save from sub goalie Vinnie Carrol they would have had there second goal. Outstaning for Moorefield were Paddy Tracey, James Dowling, Dean Brogan, Simon Byrne, Michael Tracey, Ross Glavin, Mark Doyle and Daryl Flynn.

CLUB NOTES

Firstly, Moorefield GAA Club would like to congratulate the Kildare Football Team and all concerned, with the great victory over Dublin to take the Leinster Title.  Well done lads, we are all proud of you.

On the home front it has been quite enough with the Under 16 Footballers being involved in Championship fore. On Friday week last they put up a great performance to beat Na Fianna on a score 0-14 to 1-6 in the Championship replay.  Then on Friday evening last they had a comprehensive win over Celbridge to qualify for the Semi-Final of the Championship where they will meet Clane with date and venue to be announced.

On the Underage scene, our Under 12 Team had a most enjoyable weekend away in Kerry hosted by the Dingle GAA Club. Underage training continues this Saturday, meeting at Scoil Mhure at 10.45. Tickets for the All Ireland Semi Final Kildare v Galway Members requesting tickets please contact Club Secretary Timmy Durney on or before this Thursday 17th August at 8pm.

UNDER 16 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

MOOREFIELD 0-14  NA FIANNA 1-6

Under 16 Football Champions Moorefield took a major step towards retaining their title when they had a good win over League winners Na Fianna in a ding dong replay played at Allenwood on Friday evening last.  (The sides had drawn 1-9 apiece the previous weekend) Moorefield got into their stride from the start with Michael 'Frosty' Tracy starring at midfield in front of a dominant half back line of Dean Brogan, James Lornergan and Francis Dunne.  They went into a three point lead with points from Barry O Shea, Tracy and Ross Glavin.  Garry Judge kept Na Fianna in touch with a brace of points but further points from O'Shea and Glavin sent Moorefield in at half time leading 0-7 to 0-4.
On resumption 'The Moores' really stamped their authority on the game, reeling off three unanswered points to lead by six points after just seven minutes of the second half.  Moorefield continued to dictate but a Gary Judge goal for Na Fianna with ten minutes remaining left just two points between them.  Moorefield however were not to be denied and further points from Glavin and Mark Doyle (2) put them back in the driving seat.  Jason Sherlock knocked over a magnificent 45 for Na Fianna but Man of the Match Michael Tracy had the last say with the insurance point right on the call of time.

CLUB NOTES
Compared with the previous week, the one gone out was a busy one with Championship fare being the order of the day.  The Minor ‘A’ team gave an impressive display in Allenwood last Monday evening when they accounted for Carbury on the score 2-13 to 1-5 to advance to the semi-finals of the ‘A’ Championship.Still on the Championship the Under 16 ‘A’ Team played out a thrilling draw with Na Fianna at Moorefield on Friday evening last the score being 1-9 each.The repay is fixed for next Friday the 4th of August in Allenwood.  In between the Junior ‘C; qualified for the semi-final of their league with an impressive win away to Kilcock and the Seniors qualified for the Semi-Finals of the ‘Aldridge Cup’ when they travelled to St Laurences and come away winners 3-8 to 2-8.
LEINSER FINAL REPLAY TICKETS SAT 12th AUGUST
Members are requested to order their tickets from the Club Secretary before this coming Friday 4th August. 
Members are also reminded that tickets will again be in short supply and every effort will be made to facilitate members as far as possible.
On Saturday last Moorefield played host to St Eunans Under 12 Team from Donegal where they took part in the ‘Jack Whyte’ memorial competition.  Other teams took part were Na Fianna, Moorefield and Athgarven with Moorefield winning a thrilling final beating St Euans on the score 3-5 to 3-4.
