Moorefield Triumph in League Final
Moorefield 1-10 Sarsfield 0-12
Moorefield captured the U/15 league title
against neighbours Sarsfield in a tight and tence affair. Conditions were not
ideal as the ground was very slippy and a bittrtly cold wind blew but never
the less both teams served up a cracking game.Sarsfield's began with the wind
in their backs but the early scores were three a piece after almost a quater
of an hour. Michael "Frosty" Tracey,Alan Thorpe and Keith Duane
looked particularly sharp for Moorefield in the early exchanges and all got
well taken scores. Sarsfield's centre forward Paul O'Hanlon was causing
problems for Moorefield also and with their full forward Ronan Smullen also
getting on the score board Sarsfield's lead at half time by 0-09 to 0-06.
Moorefield launced an all at attack for the first quater of the second
half. Ross Glavin was starting every attack for the Moor's and with Alan
Thorpe converting the lead was down to a point. Moorefield's Eddie Crudden
switched from midfield to full forward and this move was rewarded with a great
goal from the big lad. Moorefield added another point through the outstanding
"Frosty" who retired shortly after injured, following which
Sarsfield's fought back in the last ten minutes with two 2 points from their
half-forward Niall Johnson, Barry O'Shea converted a free for the Moor's which
sealed victory for his side. Moorefield deserved this win and this side should
go on to claim more glory in the future. Like most games played between these
two clubs at any level their was'nt much between them in the end and neither
will give in too easy. Best for Sarsfield : Ronan Smullen, Niall Johnson &
Paul O'Hanlon. Best for Moorefield : Ross Glavin, Killian Hart, Micael
Trcey, Alan Thrope, Keith Duane and Eddie Crudden.
