During May 2001
Fr. Ambrose Geoghegan C.P. from Buenos Aires, Argentina, visited
Mount Argus and stayed three weeks.
The grandparents of Fr. Ambrose left Westmeath and
Longford in 1860. In the Argentine his parents were born. They in
turn had twelve children - 7 boys and 5 girls. Ambrose was born in 1915.
He was professed as a Passionist in 1932 and ordained
a priest in 1940. He was superior of many of their houses and served as
Provincial Superior for 15 years from 1948-1954, and 1957-1966.
All his life he has been involved in preaching
Missions. He still visits small towns who have no priest to give
Missions. Recognising his age, now 86 years, he returns to Argentina to
give less missions and to offer himself for a day a week to be present
for people in a 'drop-in' prayer centre in the centre of Buenos Aires.
