Prayers for October

Alone with none, but Thee my God
I journey on my way
What need I fear, when Thou art near
O King of night and day.

With whom and with what do I travel life?
Lord have I space for you?

Is my baggage cluttered with people,
Hangers on,
Asking this, seeking that.
Am I tugged apart by others,
At the beck and call of all?
Running here running there,
Like a top spinning out of control!
Is it thus I drown the anxieties and insecurities of life?
If so, Lord, there is little space left for you.
Help me find space for you.

Lord is my baggage full of things?
Houses, cars, holidays, clothes, job and money are my constant preoccupation.
My time is spent getting and spending!
Every moment is filled with the unimportant and the trivial.
Is it thus I drown the anxieties and insecurities of life?
If so, Lord, there is little space left for you.
Help me find space for you.

Alone with none, but Thee my God
I journey on my way
What need I fear, when Thou art near
O King of night and day.

Prayer of St. Bernard to
Our Lady
Remember,
O most gracious Virgin Mary
That never was it known
That anyone
Who fled to your protection,
Implored your help
Or sought your intercession
Was left unaided.

Inspired with this confidence
We fly unto you
O virgin of virgins
Our Mother.

To You
Do we come
Before you we stand
Sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate
Despise not our petitions
But in your clemency
Hear and answer us.
Amen.
