FAQ

Not another Clare Links site!

Actually no! This is the original Clare Links site! It started in 1995, when I volunteered to take on the Clare section of the Virtual Tourist Guide to Ireland run by Dr. Paddy Waldron of TCD. Since then, we've seen the Ennis Information Age project, the expansion of internet access, the growth of competing "portal" sites, and waves of business, voluntary and civic organisations offering information, goods and services over the 'net. In those days Ireland On-Line only had access numbers in Dublin and Galway and, while everyone was impressed by the technology, the "content" was thin on the ground. Sites like this one were the fore-runners of the portals, aiming to facilitate the users wandering in this wilderness, and as well as encouraging the content-developers.

What is purpose of the Guide?

It is a collection of links to other sites, the common theme of which is County Clare, Ireland. Its aim is to encourage the development of the Internet in County Clare. It is not intended to be a content provider as such in itself. Neither does it claim to be a comprehensive listing (try www.goldenpages.ie!), but the sites, listed here should "get you started" on building your own collection of useful links. If you find one you feel others would like to know about then let me know - see next question.

How can I submit a new link for the Guide?

Send me an email at w3g2clare@eircom.net. The site must be related to County Clare. There is no charge for inclusion, but the site owner will be asked to provide a link back to this site. That is, after all, how the Web "works", adding value to each site by increasing the usefulness to the user.

How can I report missing/broken links?

Send me an email at w3g2clare@eircom.net.

How often is the Guide updated?

Whenever I get a chance! This is a voluntary project after all. Unfortunately, a combination of factors has meant that it has been 18 months since the last update. Hopefully that won't happen again. I would hope to update every month from now on.

Why has the URL and email address changed?

Because my Internet Service Provider has. This site began life on my Ireland On-Line user account. Now I'm with Eircom. I don't have any opinions about the relative merits of the competing ISPs. I switched to Eircom because of the Information Age Town project in Ennis.
