For most young people
the youth work they are most familiar with outside their own
congregation under the banner of the Presbyterian Church is
run by the PYM, Presbytery Youth Movement.
But this is just a part
of the overall structure of our denomination, the Presbyterian
Church in Ireland. Its supreme body, the General Assembly
organises its work through various Boards, one of which is
the Youth Board. This
is made up of two representatives of each of the 21 Presbyteries
(a Presbytery is a geographical grouping of congregations
which functions as an important level of church government),
along with members from various youth organisations i.e. BB,
GB, Scouts etc.
The full Youth Board
meets three times a year, but the bulk of its work is done
through various committees and working groups. The Youth Board
organises various major events such as Summer Outreach Teams,
Youth Night, Route 66, The Year Team and so on. Between Youth
Board and Presbytery there is another layer, though not a
particularly important one, the Synod Youth Council. In our
case the Youth Agents of Donegal, Monaghan and Dublin & Munster
Presbyteries meet to organise one event a year, which is centred
around a Ten Pin Bowling Final held in Dublin. Never the less
it has to be said that the foundation on which all the rest
is based is the local PYM which needs your support. If you
have any comments or suggestions to help PYM fulfil its aims
in serving Christ among young folk in this area please contact
