INTRODUCTION:

The FAB Community = Services=20 Network is a = community-based=20 forum for individuals, voluntary groups, agencies and residents working = and=20 living in the Firhouse and Bohernabreena electoral districts. There is a = FAB=20 meeting every couple of months at which a wide range of community = related issues=20 are discussed, and community initiatives are planned. Meetings are = currently=20 held in the mornings in Firhouse Community College. NEIGHBOURHOOD=20 DISCUSSION FORUM:

An=20 internet discussion forum has been set up to allow people living = in the=20 FAB area to have their say on local issues, or just to keep in = touch with=20 local activities. Please feel free to register and voice your = opinions at=20 www.neighbours.ie/fab.=20 If you are a member of any local sports/community group and wish = to=20 publicize any upcoming events, this is also a good place to=20 post.

FIRHOUSE=20 COMMUNITY COLLEGE SPORTS HALL:

The new sports hall at Firhouse = Community=20 College is now open for groups in the evenings and at weekends. There = are four=20 fully trained sports instructors who will provide sports activities for = groups=20 of 10 or more, with the main focus on the 10 to 21 age group. The staff = ran a=20 very successful Easter Camp and intend to run Summer Camps during the = day=20 throughout July/August. There will be a sports camp for the 10+ age = group and a=20 fitness club for the 16+ age group. These will be run on a daily basis = at the=20 cost of =801 per day. FOROIGE=20 FUN AND GAMES CLUBS:

Two Foroige Fun and Games Clubs have = already=20 started in the above sports hall on Thursday evenings, one for 10 to 12 = year=20 olds and the other for the 12+ age group. These will close for Summer = but will=20 resume again in September. Volunteers to act as a support for the = instructors=20 are urgently needed, especially 18-25 year olds. COMMUNITY=20 FUN-DAY:      =20            =20            &n= bsp;           &nb= sp;           &nbs= p;            = ;  =20 FAB=92s second Community Fun-Day will take place on = September=20 16th, in Ballycragh Park. If you would like to get = involved or=20 to be a sponsor for the event, please make contact with the FAB=20 group.

 

 

JUNK=20 COLLECTION:

A junk=20 collection will be carried out by South Dublin County Council over = the=20 Summer months. FAB are in contact with SDCC and have requested = that Beech=20 Dale, Hunterswood and Parklands be included in this collection.=20 Householders will be notified by letter a week before the = collection is=20 due to take place.

 

 

NEW=20 COMMUNITY FACILITY:

The second set=20 of architect=92s drawings/plans for the community facility in Ballycragh = Park are=20 just ready for viewing by the community facility development group. The=20 development group requested a set of drawings for a community facility = which=20 would be eco friendly and which would enhance the park and blend in = well. The=20 new drawings are described as =93impressive=94 by council = members.

 

BALLYCRAGH=20 PARK:

On=20 16th of April, three representatives from SDCC Parks = Department=20 met up with local residents for a walk-around of Ballycragh Park. = The=20 council reps saw at first hand some of the issues and concerns of = locals=20 regarding the park and have agreed on the following positive=20 actions:

 

 

  • New sign in the = park with=20 map etc.=20
  • Vandalised trees = will be=20 replaced in Winter 2007/Spring 2008=20
  • Litter bins will = be placed=20 outside the park gates=20
  • The lake and = river area will=20 be cleaned up=20
  • Glass will be = swept from the=20 paths=20
  • Anti dog fouling = signs will=20 be placed in the park=20
  • Information on = the park=20 wildlife will be made available=20
  • Graffiti will be = removed=20 from the bridges=20
  • The possibility = of a new=20 diagonal path will be investigated=20
  • The drainage = problem will be=20 investigated in Winter 2007=20
  • The possibility = of a safe=20 platform at the lake will be investigated in = 2008=20

 

The=20 next community park clean-up will take place on Saturday = 16th=20 June from 2.00p.m. - 3.00p.m. Congratulations to Lauren McColgan = and=20 Damien Thomson on receiving their bronze medals for showing up to = five or=20 more clean-ups. Thanks to all the other young people who have = helped out=20 over the year. There is a park clean-up on the third Saturday of = every=20 month, weather permitting. All are welcome to come along and=20 help.

 

OTHER=20 INFORMATION:

The Firhouse=20 Carmel F.C. Mini World Cup will take place during the week = starting the=20 25th June. Registration will take place on Monday 18th, = Tuesday 19th=20 and Wednesday 20th in the evenings at the = clubhouse.

 

The Local Area Plan for West = Oldcourt=20 (possibly 2500 new housing units) may not be ready until the Summer = months. FAB=20 will request that the local community be given until the end of = September at=20 least to study the plan and respond.
