The final of the Lucozade Sport Munster Junior Cup between Leeside (Cork) and Ballynanty Rovers (Limerick) will take place on Sunday 18th May 2008 at Turners Cross, Cork with a 3-00pm kick-off.

Congratulations are extended to Carrick United who won the Umbro FAI Junior Cup for the 1st time when they defeated Killester Utd from Dublin by 2-1 in the final played at the RSC. Congratulations are also extended to Rockmount who defeated Douglas Hall, to claim their 3rd title, in an all Cork Umbro FAI Intermediate Cup final by 2-0 in a game played at Turners Cross.

The AGM of the Munster Football Association will take place on Saturday 14th June 2008 in the Rochestown Park Hotel, Cork at 2-30pm. Entry is by admission ticket only and clubs wishing to attend should apply to the Administrator/Secretary of the Association for their tickets. Clubs are entitled to one ticket per team affiliated.

There will be two Under 18 International friendly matches between Ireland and Malta played in Cork in Mid April. The games will take place at Turners Cross on Tuesday 15th April and at St Colman's Park, Cobh on Thursday 17th April, both games kick-off at 7-30pm. These games are in addition to the Under 16 games between Ireland and Germany which are being played in Blarney, Co.Cork on Tuesday 8th April and Listowel, Co.Kerry on Thursday 10th April.

A beginners course for referees will be held on the 1st and 2nd March 2008 at Colaiste Stiofán Naofa, Tramore Road, Cork. Anybody interested should contact Brian O'Regan at 086-8113959.

Congratulations are extended to St Michael's FC from Tipperary who won FAI club of the month award for November 2007. Representatives of the club were presented with their prize of €1,500 at a function on Wednesday 19th December 2007 in the City West Hotel, Dublin. They will now go forward to the club of the year awards which will be announced at the FAI pre AGM delegates dinner in July.

Clubs are reminded that application forms are available for the club of the month awards which should be completed and forwarded to the FAI as soon as possible.

The draws for the 1st three rounds in the Lucozade Sport Munster Senior, Junior and Youths Cup competitions were made on Wednesday 5th September 2007 and are published in the competitions section of the website..

Tickets for Ireland's upcoming UEFA Under 21 championship game against England on the 16th October 2007 at Turners Cross are available from Ticketmaster outlets nationwide.

Manager Gerry Smith has announced his squad of players for the forthcoming friendly Junior International game against Scotland in Petershill, Scotland on Saturday the 22nd September 2007 at 3-00pm. There are a number of Munster based players in the squad as follows: James Walsh (St Michael's), Stephen O'Mahony (Lisselton Rvs), James Sugrue (Tralee Dynamos), Paul Breen (St Michael's), Keith Harnett (Pike Rvs), Joe Watson (Waterford Crystal), Daniel Power (Newcastle West) and Wayne Fitzgerald (Carrick Utd).

The Munster Football Association wishes to announce that it has a limited number of programmes available for the recent Cork City v Sunderland match at face value. Anyone looking for a copy should send a self stamped addressed envelope (C5 size minimum) to the Munster Football Association, Turners Cross Stadium, Curragh Road, Turners Cross, Cork with a postal order for 5 euro made payable to the Munster Football Association.

There are a number of Munster based players in both squads. For the game in Cork, which will be an Amatuer International, the following Munster players have been selected: Brendan O'Connell (College Cors), Adrian Walsh (Carrick Utd), James Walsh (St Michael's), Pat O'Connor & John Paul O'Sullivan (both Grattan Utd), Rob O'Mahony & David Spratt (both Avondale Utd), Ken Hoey, Alan Weldon & Ruairi Beechinor (all Rockmount). For the game in Tipperary, which will be a Junior International, the following Munster players have been selected: Stephen O'Mahony (Lisselton Rvs), James Sugrue (Tralee Dynamos), James Walsh & Paul Breen (both St Michael's), Pat McGarry & Keith Harnett (both Pike Rvs) and Wayne Fitzgerald (Carrick Utd).

 

The Munster Football Association wishes to announce that tickets for the forthcoming Cork City xi v Sunderland game on the 30th July will be available from Cork City FC and the various Leagues affiliated to the Munster Football Association from Tuesday 5th June 2007. Tickets are priced at €25 for adults and €10 for children under 14 years.

The Munster Football Association will anounce shortly when and where tickets can be purchased for the forthcoming game between Cork City and Sunderland.

Congratulations are extended to Rockmount FC from Cork and Killarney Celtic from Kerry who won FAI club of the month awards for January and March respectivily. Both clubs now go forward to the club of the year awards which will be announced at the FAI pre AGM delegates dinner in July.

Sunderland AFC have confirmed that the Club will travel to the Republic of Ireland to play three friendly fixtures as part of the team’s pre-season preparations this summer. The Munster Football Association are delighted to announce that it will be promoting one of the games against Cork City which will be on Monday the 30th July 2007. This match is being organised as a fundraiser for the continuing development of Turners Cross football ground. SAFC Chairman Niall Quinn said: “We are very honoured to bring Sunderland on this summer tour of Ireland, courtesy of Aer Arann. There’s a marvellous feeling of goodwill between Sunderland and the Irish public and this trip will complement the progress at the Club since Drumaville’s takeover last summer. “We’re sure the tour will be fantastic for the Club and its supporters and there has already been tremendous amount of interest from Sunderland fans wishing to make the journey to Ireland with us.” The tour, sponsored by Aer Arann who will be flying the team from Newcastle and throughout their tour in Ireland, will see Roy Keane’s side take on Bohemians, Cork City and Galway United in a week-long visit.

The MFA will announce shortly where tickets can be purchased for the game.


 

Mr John O'Donoghue T.D. Minister for Arts,Sport and Tourism officially opened the new Curragh Road stand at Turners Cross on Thursday 5th April and on the same day announced a grant of €200,000 towards the cost of erecting a new roof over the existing seats at the St Anne's Park end of the ground. A new toilet block is also to be built at this end of the ground.

In the FAI Intermediate Cup, Avondale Utd are the only Munster team to qualify for the semi-finals where they will play Killdrum Tigers in Donegal.

In the Statoil FAI Junior Cup Villa FC from Waterford were the sole Munster team in the semi-finals but they lost the game on penalties to St John Bosco from Dublin in Dublin.

In the FAI Youth Cup quarter finals Wembley Rvs from Limerick are at home to Bohemians from Waterford and Newcastle West from the Limerick Desmond League are at home to Everton from Cork.

In the FAI Under 17 Cup quarter finals Ringmahon Rgs from Cork are at home to Castlebar Celtic, College Corinthians from Cork are away to Drogheda Boys, Nenagh Celtic from North Tipperary are at home to Dublin opposition while if Wembley Rvs from Limerick win their 5th round game they will be away to Dublin opposition.
