Mary White has lived in Borris, Co. Carlow for over twenty years. Born in Co. Wicklow, Mary was educated at the Ursuline Convent, Waterford and Trinity College Dublin. She was a founder member of the English Society at Trinity College and was awarded a "Pink" at University for sporting excellence. After graduation she worked for an editorial consultancy called Verbiage and she later worked for the Spanish Cultural Insitute in Dublin. Mary travelled in New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, before returning to Dublin, where she became a bookseller. She married Robert, who comes from Bagenalstown and is another bookseller, in 1980. The couple have one daughter, Dorothy Ellen. Mary is an organic grower and a keen hillwalker. She speaks Spanish and French, and is brushing up on Irish by attending, when possible, the local Glor na Gael classes in Rathanna. She has written a Walkguide to the Blackstairs with Joss Lynam and Environment Mining and Politics - an account of an anti-mining campaign which acts as a bible for DIY environmental campaigners. In her spare time writes fiction. |
