  Naas Athletic Club brought to a close another very successful year for their juvenile athletes on Sunday 13th December, with their annual Christmas party and awards presentation held in the Sports centre at the Caragh Rd.
The first awards to be presented were the Merit Awards.The winners in the girls section were U-10 Sinéad Walsh, U-12 Siobhán Delaney, U-13 Aoife Fenlon, and U-15 Elaine Corrigan. In the boys section the winners were U-10 Niall O'Connor, U-11 Keith Abbott, U-12 Colm Stapleton, U-13 Peter Tuohy and U-14 David McGrath.
The U-12 girls Cross Country team were next up to receive their awards for winning the County Championship and the Rosemary Foley Cup. The team members, Ciara Gallagher, Siobhán Delaney, Clíodhna O'Connor, Aideen Fenlon, Áine O'Connor and Rebecca Devlin were presented with the cup and their awards by Sue Foley.
A Leinster award was presented to Mairéad Drewitt for winning the U-14 javelin competition at the Leinster Championships in the summer. Eoin Mulhall, Ailbhe Enright and Claire Mooney also won Leinster titles during the year, Eoin U-18 indoor 200m, Ailbhe U-19 Long jump and Claire U-17 indoor 60m & 200m. They received their awards at the club dinner on Friday night where they were honoured along with our other top junior Ciara O'Corror.
The Most Improved award went to Donal Delahunt, while Best Newcomer awards were presented to Dan Lawrence in the younger catagory and to Ciaran Mattocks in the older age group.
The Most Consistent Athlete award went to Ciara Gallagher. Ciara had a great year, she won a silver and bronze medal at the Leinster Indoors, team silver at the Leinster cross country relays, she won four Co Championships, and seven out of nine rounds of the County league. At the Leinster team competition in Greystones she won a bronze medal. During the recent Cross Country season she won the U-12 Co championship and was second U-13, she was 5th overall at the U-12 Leinster Championships winning an individual medal and she led the County to team silver and she also won a team medal with the U-13 Co team in the same championships.
The Patsy Tierney Cup for Outstanding Achievement was presented to Mairéad Drewitt by Anita Tierney. Mairéad only took up the javelin two weeks before winning the Co Championships and then she went on to win the Leinster title a few weeks later . From the start she showed a natural talent for the javelin and her dedication to training saw her win the bronze medal at the National Championships. She has been selected for the Leinster Squad who train at regular intervals at Morton Stadium in Santry. She also won a Leinster medal with the Co u-14 team at the recent Cross Country Championships.
The Rosemary Foley Cup for the overall juvenile athlete was presenterd to Claire Mooney by Sue Foley. Claire had another great year, she won gold in both the 60m & 200m at the Leinster Indoors and won silver in both at the National Indoors. She is the current Scottish U-17 Indoor 200m champion. At the National Championships this summer she won the 100m, 200m and 300m titles. She is on the National Development squad and spent a week at their training camp in Portugal at Easter. Claire is a very talented and dedicated athlete and her award was well deserved.
The committee would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have helped out in any way with the juvenile athletes especially the very dedicated coaches and parents and to wish all our members a very happy Christmas.
