Thanksgiving and Commemoration Service
The Parish Church of St. George, Belfast

Members of the Irish Naval Association joined with members of the Irish Maritime Institute travelled by coach to Belfast to participate in the Annual Commemoration Ceremony for Merchant Seaman lost at Sea. And who have no known graves.

Former Government TD. Barry Desmond Chairman of the Maritime Institute, The Naval Association President Patrick O’Byrne, and Mr. Dennis Ranaghan M.N.A (N.I.) Marine Institute Ireland attended from Dublin. Other distinguished guests included Captain Lady Carswell OBE, RNR. Representatives from the Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, Merchant Navy and Royal Naval Associations.

The congregation was addresses by The Reverend Brian Stewart, Chaplain of the Merchant Navy Associations who reminded us of the great sacrifices of those who lost their lives at the Battle of Jutland during WW1 and The North Atlantic campaign of WW2. This was followed by the laying of wreaths at the Alter from the various representative organisations present at the ceremony.

Following the ceremony all adjourned to the Royal Naval Association Club for light refreshments.
