The Flag Officer of the Naval Service Commodore John Kavanagh asked the Dublin Branch of the Naval Association to organise and Host some event in Dublin to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Naval Service. As the Naval Service was based in Cork it would be difficult to organise and run anything in Dublin while they organised their own events in Cork. The Naval Associated readily agreed to this task as it would be our thank you for the many happy years in the Naval Serve and the Naval Service Reserve.

After a lot of discussions it was decided that we host a maritime Festival along the City Quays, and invite as many Tall Ships and ships from other Navies to participate.
Below we detail the events during that June Bank Holiday weekend in 1996. Not listed below was an excellent Banquet held in the State Room of Dublin Castle with misic provided by the Navy Pipe Band and the Army No 1 Band
