Naval Association visit to Casement Aerodrome 25th January 2007
Michael Whelan M.A. (Irish Aer Corps) lectured on the Irish participation in WW1 and their subsequent return to Ireland to join the the Irish Volunteers to fight for Irish Freedom. Some stayed in the British Army and returned to Ireland as British Soldiers and fought against the Irish Volunteers (I.R.A), during he period 1918-1921.
Mick described in detail and with slide projection how following the Irish Treaty with Britian, and, the Irish Civil War that followed between 1921 and 1923, Irish men transferred from the British Army and joined the New Free State Army while others took the side of the Anti-treaty Forces.
