Sounds of Music Junior Finals

The Spring Junior League Finals Day at the Nenagh club was again a big success. Following on the successful inaugural league last Spring, this year's league was equally successful and well supported by the juniors in the club.

The day showed good general interest and some excellent tennis from all participants in the finals. Perhaps the highlight was the Girls Division I final which went on for two and a half hours with victory finally going to Amy Kennedy and Tara Spain over Eimear Dwan and Ciara Corkery.

Roger Spain from sponsors 'Sounds of Music' in Pearse Street, Nenagh was on hand to present the finalists with their prizes. Tim Conway, President of the Nenagh LTC thanked Roger for his very generous sponsorship of the event.

Tim also thanked among others, Anne Fitzpatrick, without whom the event simply would not have run. Roger said he was delighted to be associated with the event and he encouraged all players, regardless of their standard of play to use the club regularly and to enjoy their time in what is a wonderful sporting facility.

The results of the finals were:

Girls:  Division I: Amy Kennedy/Tara Spain bt Eimear Dwan/Ciara Corkery
Division II: Jenny McGrath/Ann Marie Finn bt Aine Murphy/Ruth Darcy
Division III: Clare Quigley/Mairead Murphy bt Ciara Houlihan/Teresa O'Neill
           Under 9: Tara Kennedy/Sarah O'Connor bt Tara O'Carroll/Ciara Dunne

Boys: Division I: Conal Houlihan/Conor Geaney bt Shane Dwan/Eoin Slattery
Division II: David Cleary/Robert Hanly bt John Hanly/James Cody
Under 9: Barry O'Connor/Alan Cody bt Adam Cody/Thomas Conway

Free Court Usage for Juniors

The committee has decided that juniors will not have to purchase tokens for use of the courts from 9 am until 6 pm each day. This free court usage is designed to encourage juniors to continue to use the club following on from the recent successful Spring League. The experiment is operative immediately and will run until September.

Normal court booking still applies and juniors will still have to book courts to guarantee access to them at busy times. Adult using courts during the daytime must still of course use the paid tokens.

Junior Coaching Programme

The Junior Coaching Programme in the club will run from the weekend of 24th April. Group allocations and times are being sorted at the moment and will be posted up on the notice board.

Procter & Gamble Inter Firms League 2004

The 2004 Nenagh and District Inter-firms League will run from Monday 3rd May. Procter & Gamble will again be exclusive sponsors of the event.

Full details will be on the notice board in the next couple of days. The usual rules, with some modifications in Division I mainly, will apply. Four players (2 ladies, 2 men) per team. Division I must have at least one 'B' man and one 'B' lady on the teams.

The standard of the higher graded player on the team usually dictates the division in which the team will be playing, so it's important that teams try to have teams comprised of reasonably equal standards of players. Entries close on Wednesday 28th April.

Club Night Wed 21st April

The club night arranged for Holy Thursday night 8th April was cancelled because of a small entry. The next club night will now be Wednesday next 21st April. Names on own on entry sheet at the clubhouse by 8 pm Tues 20th April.
