The Clearys' Garage sponsored Spring Doubles League finished on a successful note on Friday night last. Six finals were down for decision and each of them made for interesting viewing on the night.
A feature of the finals was that again we saw a number of new faces in finals action along with some more players familiar to such occasions. There was a good atmosphere in the club on the night, as indeed there was for semi-finals night, and overall, the complete league and the 2 concluding nights marked an excellent start to the new season.
There was only 2 mens' divisions in this year's league as opposed to 4 in the ladies league, all of which suggests that either the ladies are more willing to get out there in all weathers, or the men are sparing themselves for the later events. We must also acknowledge of course that there's less men playing in the club at the moment.
Club Captain Eamon Spillane led the way for the new season when he and Philip O'Gorman won the Division I mens' event. A Galway and Limerick combination won the Division II men. Paul Royston from Portumna and Gerry McCague from Monaleen were pushed all the way by Cloughjordan duo Peter Baker and Pat Cleary.
Deirdre McSherry and Madeleine Harvey won the ladies Division I, while another Galway/Limerick combination, Bridie Corkery and Carmel Power won the Division II title. Sheila O'Connor and Margaret Finn won Division III and Aileen Hannifin and Julie Donovan were Division IV winners.
Tim Conway, President of Nenagh LTC presented all finalists with their prizes. Tim thanked Eddie Cleary for his very generous prizes. He also thanked all who competed in the event and the organising committee who had done a very efficient job. 98 players in all played in league. Club Captain Eamon Spillane, speaking on behalf of all the players also thanked Eddie Cleary and all associated with the League.

The Junior Spring Doubles league is ongoing at the moment and the number of matches being played should increase over the next week. The finals are scheduled for Holy Thursday next 8th April and that should be a big occasion for all juniors in the club.
In addition to the finals, there will be U.9 events for players in those age groups. And there will be lots of fun activities for juniors and parents. Hopefully, everyone who has competed in the league will come along, regardless of whether they are in a final or not. And hopefully the weather will be kind.
The Junior Club Coaching Programme will be running shortly. Any juniors or parents interested in getting their youngsters into it should be getting their application forms in as soon as possible. There should be forms in the club, or Mary Ryan (067-33217) will supply.
It's important to note that all participants in the coaching must be paid up for the coaching and be members of the club. Pay with the coaching application form. New members of course are welcome in the club at all times, and new members taking up the coaching can pay their membership along with the coaching fees.
