The Sound of Music sponsored Junior Spring League will commence at the club next week. This was a very big success last season and indications are that this year will be equally so.
Details and an entry sheet are posted up at the clubhouse. The event will be run similarly to last season. Players will be put into appropriate groupings/divisions with draws for partners. It's then up to the various pairings to arrange their own matches. The top pairings in the groups/divisions will progress to the play-offs or finals, depending on how many pairings comprise each division.
Entries must be on the notice board at the club by 12 noon next Sunday 14th March. The draw and details of groupings, etc will be posted up by Sunday evening and play can proceed from Monday onwards.
The Clearys' Garage Spring Doubles League has kicked off at the club this week. The league, which is men's doubles and ladies doubles, is running from Monday 8th March - Friday 26th March.
It's the first big event of the year at the club and that's reflected in the size of the entry, which is almost 100 players. Please note that the finals are scheduled for Friday 26th March, not Friday 3rd April as I stated in error a couple of weeks ago.
Which means of course that time will be quite limited for arranging matches and obtaining courts for evening matches could prove difficult as the playing deadline approaches. So the message has to be - get those matches played as soon as possible.
The evening time slots for the courts are extended to facilitate playing of matches. However, pairings arrange their own matches, pay own lights, etc.
Nenagh teams had mixed luck in their Munster Winter League play-offs at the weekend. The Division V team were 3/1 winners over Rushbrooke. This team was Eamon Spillane, Sean Reidy, Caroline White and Jane McGrath. They now progress to the quarter finals, probably this weekend.
The Division VI team lost out to St Michael's 1/3. St Michael's will surely go near winning this league as they beat a good Nenagh team which comprised Mary Minogue (captain), Carmel Ryan, Willie Percy and Pat Cleary.
