There was smiles all round at Nenagh LTC last weekend as the club learned that it had been successful in its application for Lotto Grant funding for planned improvements and development works at the club.
The club has been allocated €35,000 in grant aid towards the development of 2 new floodlit hardcourts, rejuvination (refurbishment) work on courts 5 and 6, resurfacing and part rewiring of the mini-tennis court and practice wall area.
The good news was confirmed to club officials and members at a reception at the club on Saturday evening attended by Michael Smith, TD, Minister for Defence, Maura Hoctor TD, and Tom Harrington MCC.
As yet no date has been set for the hardcourts, but the refurbishment of the courts and resurfacing required hopefully will soon be set in motion.
The Nenagh and District Inter Firms League continues at the club this week and reports from all involved indicate that everything seems to going well. The league reaches its conclusion during this week, with the semi-finals set for this Thursday night 13th May and the finals taking place on this Friday night 14th May.
Finals night of Inter Firms is always a good night to come along to the club, so hopefully there will be a good turnout for what should be a good evenings entertainment.
The Social Tennis Nights will resume on Wednesday night next 19th May. The usual rules apply. Put your names (on own) on the entry sheet at the clubhouse by 8 pm on Tuesday night next 18th. Draw and time schedule will be up by 9 pm.
Nenagh CBS U.19 school team are still unclear as to their fate in the Munster Schools Cup. They lost 1/3 to Colaiste an Spioraid Naoimh in the semi-final but felt that the Cork school has played its team illegally. An objection has failed, but the team is appealing that decision. The finals are on this Friday 14th May.
