John Philpot Curran

John Philpot Curran lived in Copsfield in a part of Newmarket called the Priory. His house now belongs to Eddie Collins.  Mr Curran was a lawyer who supported many of the local people.  He also supported many of Cork rebels during the 1600. His daughter Sarah had a boyfriend Robert Emmet, whom the English hung.  She was buried in Newmarket.

Sarah Curran was born at priory Newmarket in 1782. She was barely twenty when she met Robert Emmet who often visited behind her fathers back. She married Captain Sturgeon in November 25, 1805. Later she died and was buried in Newmarket.
