Teach Altra

line

Teach Altra is a new purpose-built nursing home overlooking Newmarket itself. It was named by my 94 year old grand-aunt, who was a school principal in Arklow, Co.Wicklow. The name comes from the Irish word for nurse - banaltra or caring woman.

It was designed to cater for the needs of dependent people, so, there are no steps anywhere in the building, which is a single storey unit with two internal gardens. All rooms either overlook a garden or the town itself. There are various rest areas in the building where residents can relax and mix. Every room is en-suite and has direct dial telephone and a T.V on which you can view mass in the oratory, if for some reason you are unable to go.

There are closed circuit televisions installed around Teach Altra and patients have the option of having a wristlet, which is able to alert the staff in case of emergency, if they so wish.

The first patient arrived on the 2nd of April 2001 with great excitement. It is exactly one year since the builders arrived on-site and they worked night and day to get it finished on time and with great commitment, they succeeded.

There is bingo, music, storytelling, cookery and various other activities to keep the guests happy, entertained and stimulated throughout their stay at Teach Altra. There is also a notice board on their T.V every day.
