British
Rail’s Class 8 4-6-2 “Duke of Gloucester” was built in 1953 and features
poppet valve gear of the British-Caprotti pattern. For a variety of reasons
it was not a success BUT it has been rebuilt from the Barry wreck it was
to the outstanding performer that it is today!

Although I have classified
71000 as a First Generation Steam Locomotive this may not be entirely
correct. I am a member (joined in Feb 2005) of the "Friends of 71000" and as
such hope to discuss the role of 71000 in Modern Steam Locomotive Development.
