British Rail’s Class 8 4-6-2 “Duke of Gloucester” was built in 1953 and features poppet valve gear of the British-Caprotti pattern. For a variety of reasons it was not a success BUT it has been rebuilt from the Barry wreck it was to the outstanding performer that it is today!
Although I have classified 71000 as a First Generation Steam Locomotive this may not be entirely correct. I am a member (joined in Feb 2005) of the "Friends of 71000" and as such hope to discuss the role of 71000 in Modern Steam Locomotive Development. (More to follow)
