Beaches

There are numerous magnificent beaches around this area of Connemara.

These are the nearest beaches to Emlough House:

Rossadilisk: There are two beaches at Rossadilisk. One beside the road opposite Rossadilisk house. The other at a sandbar leading to a small headland, adjacent to a pier.

Cleggan: The main Cleggan beach is signposted on the Emlough side of Cleggan.

Cleggan Farm : On the far side of Cleggan bay there is a signpost to Cleggan farm. There is a parking area down this road and a lovely walk beyond this along the side of the bay, through a number of gates and ending at a lovely cove and small strand. The walk can continue over the foreland to the lighthouse.

Aughrus: There is a pleasant small beach beside the road that circles the Aughrus area. and another small beach beside Aughrus pier.

Omey Island: A very large beach separates Omey Island from the mainland. This is fully covered by water at full tide. Cars can drive across to Omey Island at other times. There are other beaches on the island.

Inishboffin: Of course, beaches are among the attraction of Inishboffin.

Coral Strand: South of Clifden before Ballyconneely is the Coral strand, uniquely composed of coral instead of sand.
Mannin Bay, Dog's Bay and Gurteen: Continuing towards Roundstone there are magnificent beaches at Mannin Bay, Dog's Bay and Gurteen.
Gowlaun: Going North to Letterfrack, left to Tully Cross and then right, there is a magnificent beach at Gowlaun.
