History
Specification |
Designed by Rheinmetall-Borsig AG this weapon entered service in 1938.The split trail and rear trunnions allowed high elevation and the recoil system was of the 'variable' type-automatically shortening the recoil as the elevation increased.Lightweight disc wheels with solid rubber tyres were usually fitted though wood-spoked wheels were to be seen on some examples and(to save weight) no shield was used. The gun had a perforated muzzle brake and the breech-ring was unusually massive since it incorporated a joint that allowed the ring to be separated from the gun barrel for transport.A spring balancing-press was fitted to the carriage to counter the muzzle preponderance owing to the rear trunnions. |
