RESULT:- Avondale/North Wicklow won by 2 wickets

REPORT from John Fitzsimons

With Avondale/North Wicklow looking to get back on track after an unpleasant day at Cabra last week, they took on the YMCA II's at Sandymount.
YMCA won the toss and elected to bat on a dry track that proved tricky enough to score on. We got off to our usual start with the new ball with YMCA off to a flyer reaching 33/0 off the first four overs. After some head scratching and head shaking a double bowling change was made and we were able to build a bit of pressure with some line and length bowling.
From then on, with the ball jagging around off the seam, we made consistent inroads into the YMCA batting list. The reintroduction of a more relaxed Richard Bridge into the attack proved to be fruitful as he proceeded to devastate YM's middle and lower order, getting himself a bag of 5 wickets and sending us to the lunch break fairly happy after knocking them over for 121 within 40 overs.
Chasing the runs proved not as easy as we thought it would be with some good straight bowling from Moore having us a little nervous at 40 odd for 4. A good watchful innings from Damian Joyce with good support from the skipper calmed the nerves in the pavilion and we reached the total in the 41st over with 3 wickets in hand.
Special thanks to Paul Lalor who featured in some good wins for both the firsts and seconds in his time back in Ireland on holidays and we look forward to him hopefully making a contribution again next year.
