During Play

  • At the end of a match a boundary will only be scored in full if the batting side has not scored enough runs before the boundary. That is, a ball will end a match if the scores are level and the boundary will not count.
  • Wicket-keeper's gloves must not have a pouch or webbing between the fingers. This law does not apply in any grade of LCU cricket.
  • An over begins when the bowler starts his run up, or bowling action.
  • A ball is dead when trapped between the batsman's bat and person.
  • Bowling - defined as a delivery where no further straightening of the elbow joint occurs after the arm has reached the level of the shoulder. Throwing instead of bowling will lead to suspension of the bowler. Underarm bowling is not permitted.
  • Fielders - Wicket-keeper may not move significantly towards the wicket during the bowler's run up. Significant movement by a fielder off line or away from the striker during the bowler's run up is unfair.
  • A fielder's helmet when not in use must be behind the wicket-keeper and in line with the wickets.
Dismissals
A striker is out bowled if the ball breaks his wicket after stroke completion.
  • Caught - off any part of the glove of the hand holding the bat.
  • L. B. W. - It is to be assumed that the ball would continue on its path after interception, irrespective of whether it would have pitched subsequently.
  • Timed out - An incoming batsman must be in position to take guard or for partner to be ready to receive a delivery within three minutes of the fall of the previous wicket. In LCU Junior matches, if no official umpire is standing, this should be seen as a recommendation rather than a law.
  • Either batsman may be run out off a no ball, even if not attempting a run, except that the keeper may not run out the striker, unless the ball has been touched by a fielder.
  • A batsman may handle the ball to avoid injury.
Penalty Runs
  • Penalty runs to either side are awarded for the following:
    • Without a warning: Player returning to field without umpire's permission and touching the ball, ball tampering, delibraete obstruction or distraction of batsmen after delivery, stealing a run, ball striking fielder's helmet on the ground.
    • With a warning: Deliberate short runs; attempting to distract striker before delivery, time-wasting, damaging the pitch.
The awarding of penalty runs will always result in a report (except for ball striking helmet on the ground).
In LCU matches, penalty runs will always apply for wilfully fielding the ball other than with a part of one's person; fielder returning to the field without permission; ball striking a helmet when not in use. In Senior matches, if no official umpire is standing, they will not apply for other offences unless the captains agree so beforehand.
IN JUNIOR MATCHES THEY WILL NOT APPLY FOR OTHER OFFENCES AT ALL.
