News Report from Douglas in Douglas - Sunday 5th Aug. 2001,
21.30 hours.
The party arrived in gorgeous weather on Friday and the sun hasn't stopped
shining on the tour since.
First match was a Taverner fixture, which we won easily. Hospitality of beer
and good sandwiches were provided by our hosts.
Next day - Saturday - we played Cronkboune in a 40 over game.
We put them in and they made 180 for 9; Gary took 2 for 30 and Doug 1 for 30.
We fielded well and were pleased that we could attack this target.
It was not to be. Apart from Damien, who made 40 odd, including
28 off an over, this was the best news as Cronkbourne bowled us
out for 80. Nigel did in a hamstring. More great food and pints
and conviviality with our opponents at their clubhouse.
Today it was Ronaldsway; they bowled us out for 70 on a hard bouncy track; our guest Eric topped the
batting with 22. Replying to this Ronaldsway hit off the runs in 10 overs without
loss - Damien, Gary and Al were the bowlers taking the punishment.
After the game we had a great barbeque outside the clubhouse and again
much fun and drink.. Robin collected his second tie presentation and a plaque.
We struggled back to the hotel to phone in this report.
Tomorrow is a day off from cricket and some of us plan to take a ride on the island electric railway.
