Important
Information, regarding importation of firearms into Ireland.
Dear All
Contacts with PSNI and the Garda
Siochana over the last ten days have lead to considerable clarification in
regard to requirements to export firearms from Northern Ireland and import
firearms to Southern Ireland and indeed source firearms from any EU and other
country.
1) The PSNI have confirmed the
following requirement for category B firearms only (pistols and revolvers):
They will require a) Irish Firearms Certificate and b) Article 7 Authority c)
Application for visitors permit, on receipt of these items they may issue a
permit.
2) Article 7 Authority will be
issued on application by your Superintendent, contact with Garda HQ today
indicate that they will inform all Superintendents of the way in which an
Article 7 Authority is to be issued, please be patient and allow about ten days
for the information to be sent and received by your local superintendent.
Article 7 Authority also covers the
ability to acquire both firearms and ammunition and you may carry the
ammunition into the country as well as the firearm.
In addition Garda HQ have confirmed
that an importation license issued by DOJ is not necessary for an individual
who holds a firearms certificate for the firearm, so please do not apply to DOJ
and if you have do not look for them, just ignore them as they have us for the
last number of years.
Bottom line is, the DOJ have no role
in the importation of firearms by individuals licensed for firearms in this
country. Do not even apply for an importation certificate as you may not get it
and besides you do not need it.
Any individual queries will be
answered if they are directed to me.
As always contributions to FLAG are
always welcome.

Dear All
Attached is a document that provides
the most up to date information on the requirements for the importation of
firearms into Ireland by individuals licensed for the firearm.
This is focused at individual owners
of firearms purchased or acquired in another EU state including Northern
Ireland or outside of the state.
The most important thing is that a
holder of a current firearms certificate does not require an importation
certificate to be issued from the Department of Justice if they are importing a
firearm for which they have a current firearms license.
Other EU regulations must be adhered
to and these are outlined in the attached document.
Kind Regards
