Anti Bullying Policy

Bullying is repeated aggression, verbal, psychological or physical conducted by an individual or group against others.

At O’Carolan College we endeavour to ensure that our school is a happy place of learning and personal development, where every student can aspire to achieve his/her potential. Our anti-bullying rule on each student’s journal states that "harassment of any student by another, which constitutes bullying, will merit the severest sanctions".

Class tutors and Year Heads discuss bullying with their respective groups and assurance is given to all students that they can report bullying without being afraid.

Once a bullying incident is reported it will be investigated immediately as follows on an initial no-blame basis: -

  1. The victim’s story.
  2. The alleged bully's story.
  3. Reconciliation meeting between both parties if possible.
  4. Regular follow-up with both parties to help personal development of both students.
  5. Failure of above, re-occurrence of harassment will meet with serious reprimand and an invite to parents to discuss the matter with school Principal.
  6. Where physical violence or threats are used, aggressors get one warning only. The schools responsibility for the safety of all students dictates that such students are liable for removal from school.
