Offaly Pro-Life Campaign

Statement May 2000

A referendum on abortion is inevitable. However, as a resolution of the issue on the eve of the next general election is a most unlikely scenario, it would realistically have to take place before the end of the year. To this end, finding a suitable wording is not the problem, but rather finding the political will to make it happen.
The All Party Oireachtas Committee on the Constitution is currently conducting oral hearings on the abortion issue." Mr Keville went on to say "Offaly Pro-Life welcomes this process of consultation, and hopes that it leads to a satisfactory resolution of the issue, before the end of this year."
While the hearings to date have raised many issues, they have brought into sharp focus the concern which exists regarding the terminology used to describe standard medical interventions in pregnancy.
The Pro-Life Campaign looks forward to setting out it's position to the All-Party Committee on the Constitution in the coming weeks, and to a resolution of the issue this coming autumn."
