Died: 29th April 1894 in Jersey City, New Jersy, U.S.A. Buried at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City.


Enlisted: 9th August 1861 and mustered in on 24th August 1861 at Camp Olden, Trenton, New Jersey

Discharged: Mustered out on 7th September 1864

Physical description: 5' 10" tall, 150 pounds (at the time of his pension application physical exam at age 50), occupation: marble polisher (later a porter)

Rank: Enlisted as Private; discharged as Private

Wounds: Injured or fell ill at the Battle of Williamsburg and then hospitalized in Williamsburg, VA

Pension info: John filed for a pension on 8th August 1891 (Application #1046894; Certificate #784309) and was approved for an "invalid's pension" paying $12 per month due to malarial poisoning, lung and heart disease, chronic dysentery, rheumatism/lumbago, conjunctivitis, blepharitis and an enlarged spleen and liver

Other: Was to receive a $100 enlistment bounty at discharge. Married Delia (Bridget) Hough in 1867 in Jersey City and fathered 8 sons and 2 daughters there between 1868 and 1884; widowed in 1890. His older brother Owen Flannelly served a three-month enlistment from April to July, 1861 in the New Jersey Foot Militia, 2nd Regiment, Company G which was formed when President Lincoln first ordered the formation of troop units to engage the Confederate States of America.
