An endowment from the estate of the late Mrs. Margaret Campbell Flanary in 1974 established the Flanary Scholarship at East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, Tennessee, U.S.A. The scholarship provides financial help to needy students from Sullivan and Washington Counties in Tennessee.

The original amount of the endowment was $8,263.58. The first scholarship cheque was enough to pay the full tuition ($131.00, in 1975!). The current scholarship is providing about $300.00, and is estimated to have provided almost $13,000 since 1986.
