In creating the Celtic Christmas collection it was our intention to achieve something unique
that was to bring together different cultures of the world under one theme. This was acheived by
using one of the most common traditions in the world, Christmas. The first collection represents the ancient
Celtic customs associated with the Christmas festivals. As the collection unfolds you will discover a wonderful world of traditions, such as:
The Christmas Pudding
This dates back to the ancient Celts when it was made in the shape of a ball to
represent the Celtic sun. A sprig of Holly was put on top to symbolise everlasting life.
Then the pudding would be set on fire to symbolise the passing of the
old year and the coming of the new. As the poeple of
today set their puddings alight they are keeping alive the traditions of
a thousand generations of Celts.
Mistletoe
This was the sacred plant of the druids as it grew on the Oak tree which the druids believed
had a secret souce of power. In winter when the leaves of the oak would die the mistletoe
remained green therefore they believed maintaining the power of the oak. It was also believed
that as the berries grew in a pair it was a symbol of undying love hence the tradition of kissing
under the bow of mistletoe.
