The
Golden Coin
One evening Rachel and Jack were getting minded
by their nana while their mam and dad went out for a meal to celebrate their
15th anniversary. Later on that night they received a phone call around
midnight and had got the worst news possible, that their parents had been in a
car accident. Rachel and Jack were woken up by their nana and she brought them
straight to the Mater Hospital. They rushed straight to the emergency room to find
out that they had passed away just minutes while being examined.
Two days later there was a funeral for their
mother and father and the children were devastated. The day seemed very long
and they couldn't stick everyone saying how sorry they were when all they could
think about was their mam and dad. Weeks later they had to figure out a
permanent place to stay and their nana's was inappropriate because she was
getting too old, they decided for aunt
Maude to take care of them. They moved to
Valentia Island in a matter of days.
It was
a very old house deserted in the middle of the sea. Rachel and Jack shared a
bedroom because they didn't like staying in a big old house in the middle of
nowhere. They went to bed at about ten o 'clock and during the night they heard
a noise up in the attic. They were frightened at first but they found a lamp
and lit it. In the corner of the attic there was a big old mirror shining as
bright as the sun. Jack touched the mirror and suddenly disappeared and then
Rachel did the same and disappeared too.
They ended up in an old castle down in the
basement. Rachel said lets go for a walk and Jack was trembling all over. Jack
eventually gave in and they wandered off. There were so many spiral stairways
and after hours of walking they ended up in a high tower. There were so many
prison cells. Jack saw a bag of golden coins in one prison cell. He opened the
steal stiff door and Rachel jumped behind him and pretended they were locked
in. She was joking and Jack was nearly crying. They got out and Jack was
delighted. A big monster started running after them because Jack had the golden
coins. They ran as fast as their legs could carry them. Jack was dropping most
of the coins but managed to keep one coin in his pocket. They reached the
basement and they jumped back into the mirror before the monster could catch
them
They were delighted to be back in Aunt Maude’s
attic again and decided to keep this big adventure a big secret. They went
straight back to bed and never mentioned it again.
