Carcass was formed in 1985 in Liverpool, England, by guitarist Steer and drummer Owen. Along with Napalm Death, they lead the grindcore genre, but differed from Napalm Death by using medical jargon so extreme, it was comical. This was helped by bassist/ vocalist Walker who was a medical student. Guitarist Arnott finished the lineup, and the band briefly split after 1991 but reformed in 1994 to release Heartwork, which was accused of being a sell-out album, and split in 1996. Arnott went on to be in Arch Enemy while others formed Black Star. Carcass ended up being hugely influential for all extreme metal bands. |
