Def Leppard began in the late 70's, base daround a group of
late teens wanting to escape from the local tradition of leaving school to enter the
steelworks. They were helped to fame by MTV's extensive coverage. Rhythm guitarist Pete
Willis was replaced by Phil Collen in 1981. In 1984, drummer Allen lost an arm in a car accident, but carried on playing nonetheless. They continued until the early 90's, when lead guitarist Steve Clark died. The band never recovered fully afterwards, but continued on as a cult band. |
