Iron Maiden was formed by bassist Harris along with a completely different line-up to what
it is today. They played many gigs in London and received much airplay on London radio
stations and it wasn't until Dickinson replaced former vocalist Paul Di'Anno and their
groundbreaking record, Number Of The Beast, in 1982, did Maiden establish themselves as
one of the most influential metal bands of the 20th century. Playing metal music similar to Judas Priest, Iron Maiden spawned an array of imitators in their wake. They are extremely popular world-wide, even though early critics accused them of being satanists for their musical themes and use of the mascot, Eddie. |
