Metallica was started when Lars Ulrich, an unknown drummer in the heavy metal scene, got a
record label before he even set up a band. The others joined through contacts and adapted
the name Metallica. They were to be the most influential metal band of the 80's, but were dealt a blow in 1986 when their tourbus crashed, killing bass player Cliff Burton. Jason Newsted was recruited later. The band had such unusual collaborations with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and artist Ja Rule. More recently, bassist Newsted has quit due to differences with the other members of the band. However, classics such as Fade To Black and One live in peoples memories for the lightening fast guitar and drum playing. |
